[ ]Daily Prophet
The Daily Prophet is the most widely-read daily newspaper in Britain's wizard community. The articles include moving pictures. The Sunday edition is called The Sunday Prophet. Unfortunately, its journalistic integrity is somewhat lacking; it has been known to be more concerned about sales than about factual accuracy and is often a mouthpiece for the Ministry of Magic.

Oh you may not think me pretty,
But don't judge on what you see,
I'll eat myself if you can find
A smarter hat than me.
You can keep your bowlers black,
Your top hats sleek and tall,
For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
And I can cap them all.
There's nothing hidden in your head
The Sorting Hat can't see,
So try me on and I will tell you
Where you ought to be.
So put me on! Don't be afraid!
And don't get in a flap!
You're in safe hands (though I have none)
For I'm a Thinking Cap!

[ ]Leaky Cauldron
The Leaky Cauldron is a pub and inn for wizards, located on the Muggle street of Charing Cross Road in London, offering food, drinks and rooms to rent. It was founded by Daisy Dodderidge (1467–1555) in 1500 "to serve as a gateway between the non-wizarding world and Diagon Alley."

On the main floor, the inn has a bar, several private parlour rooms and a large dining room for guests to dine. On the upper floors, there are a number of rooms available

The pub serves as a way of entering onto Diagon Alley from the Muggle London either for Muggle-borns and their Muggle parents (both of whom, until the first letter from Hogwarts, have no magical knowledge or means of entering). The rear of The Leaky Cauldron opens onto a "chilly little courtyard" where a brick is tapped (found by counting three up and two across) three times.

[ ]Apothecary
The Apothecary is a fascinating shop crammed with all sorts of interesting things. There are barrels of slimy stuff lined up on the floor and jars of all sorts of powders, herbs, and the like along the walls. Bundles of feathers, fangs, and claws hang from the ceiling. The whole place smells very bad, a mixture of bad eggs and rotten cabbage.

[ ]Cauldron Shop
This shop, the closest one to the entrance from the alley behind the Leaky Cauldron, sells all sorts of cauldrons. Outside the shop, a stack of them shines in the sun, under a sign that reads:

Copper, Brass, Pewter, Silver

[ ]Flourish & Blotts
A large wizarding bookshop filled with shelves stacked to the ceiling, Flourish & Blotts is the primary - and perhaps only - supplier of textbooks for Hogwarts, though of course that's far from all they sell. The shop holds occasional book-signings, such as when Gilderoy Lockhart stopped by in 1992, and sells books via owl in addition to books purchased in-store. They also take advance orders for books that are in high demand, such as The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore.

[ ]Gringotts Wizarding Bank
Partway down Diagon Alley, near its intersection with Knockturn Alley, stands an imposing snow-white marble building: Gringotts Wizarding Bank. "Towering over the other shops", it is the place where British witches and wizards store their money and other valuables, in vaults miles below ground. The vaults are heavily guarded. The centuries-old bank is run by goblins, and they alone know the secrets of the twisting underground passages and the enchantments (and creatures!) in place to defend against intruders.

[ ]Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions
Madam Malkin's is located next door to Flourish & Blotts, and in addition to selling Hogwarts school robes, they also sell robes which are "spangled, self-ironing, beautifying, slimming, fattening, lengthening," and "temperature-adjusting" and they carry robes made by Whopperwear "for the outsize witch or wizard."

[ ]Magical Menagerie
A very crowded pet store, noisy with the sounds of all the animals. The proprietor is a witch who wears heavy black spectacles. She offers advice and sells things like rat tonic. Other creatures for sale included:

enormous purple toads
gigantic tortoise with jewel-encrusted shell (probably a Fire-Crab)
poisonous orange snails (Streelers?)
a fat white rabbit that changed into a top hat and back
cats of every color
noisy cage of ravens
custard-colored furballs (probably Puffskeins)
sleek, black rats, rather more intelligent than normal rats

[ ]Ollivander's Wands
Makers of Fine Wands since 382 B.C," Ollivander's is a narrow and shabby little shop with a window display consisting of a single wand resting on a faded purple cushion. Inside the walls are lined floor to ceiling with thousands of narrow boxes, which Mr. Ollivander chooses from when trying to find a wand to match each customer.

[ ]Quality Quidditch Supplies
Harry Potter's favorite shop in Diagon Alley is Quality Quidditch Supplies. He visited it often when he stayed for three weeks at the Leaky Cauldron, since that summer the new Firebolt racing broom had been introduced and the shop had one on display.

[ ]Ministry of Magic
A visitor to the Ministry of Magic comes to a broken-down red telephone box located on a dingy street which has several shabby offices, a pub, and a wall covered with graffitti. When the telephone in the box is dialed (62442, the word M-A-G-I-C), the welcome witch's voice answers, not from the phone but from the air as if the person is standing right there. Visitors must state their business, upon which a silver badge pops out with the visitor's name and purpose of visit. Then the telephone box drops down like a lift for about one minute, after which the visitor is in the Atrium.

[ ]Platform 9 3/4
In northwestern London lies Kings Cross Station, a Muggle railway station that is one of the busiest in the city. It's a perfectly ordinary station, with big plastic numbers over each track and guards who have never heard of Hogwarts School. However, every September 1, as the clock overhead approaches eleven o'clock and the InterCity 125 pulls into platform nine, a strange crowd turns the occasional Muggle head. The crowd is wizarding children, bearing enormous trunks and caged owls, making their way toward - and then through - the solid metal barrier between platforms nine and ten.

[ ]St. Mungo's Hospital
Founded in late 1500s or early 1600s by Mungo Bonham, St. Mungo's Hospital is the primary (and likely only) wizarding hospital in Britain. Located in an abandoned department store in London, the hospital's Healers treat wizards for all sorts of magic-related illnesses and injuries, and in extreme circumstances has been known to treat Muggles as well. The hospital's logo is a wand and a bone, crossed, and donations are welcome.

[ ]The Hog's Head
Located a block or so off High Street, the Hog's Head Inn has been a fixture of Hogsmeade for hundreds of years. A worn-out wooden sign hangs over the door, advertising with a "wild boar's severed head leaking blood onto the white cloth around it"

[ ]Hogsmeade Station
A "tiny, dark platform" where the Hogwarts Express ends its journey north from Platform Nine-And-Three-Quarters. The station is located near the lake, and from there a road extends around the lake to Hogwarts Castle. The station is actually quite a distance from the town itself, being on the opposite side of the Hogwarts grounds.

[ ]Honeydukes Sweetshop
A sweetshop, owned by Ambrosius Flume and his wife, which is filled with "shelves upon shelves of the most succulent-looking sweets imaginable". In addition to the standard wizarding candy that is sold there, the owners also make their own fudge and chocolate. For obvious reasons, the shop is quite a popular destination for Hogwarts students when visiting Hogsmeade on the weekends.

[ ]The Shrieking Shack
Falsely rumored to be "the most haunted building in Britain," the Shrieking Shack is a favorite stop on any Hogsmeade visit. However, the wails that were once heard emanating from this creepy building were not in fact ghosts, but rather Remus Lupin transformed into a werewolf. The shack, in fact, was built when he came to Hogwarts, allowing him to transform a safe distance away from the other students. The shack cannot be broken into from the outside. It must be entered instead through a secret passageway, the mouth of which lies under the Whomping Willow.
